    The Floodplain Mapping Specialist (FMS) works as part of a team to conduct work activities to complete Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Cooperating Technical Partners (CTP) projects and aid the public in obtaining and understanding available flood hazard information.  Work activities include clerical tasks, GIS tasks, communication with communities and the public, writing of plans and reports, public speaking, attendance at meetings and planning sessions with contractors, communities, and other government agencies.  The FMS is supervised by the Floodplain Mapping Coordinator (FMC), the NFIP Coordinator, and the DWR Water Structures Program Manager.
    • A bachelor's degree in environmental science with an emphasis on hydrology, geology, geography or a related natural science.
    • Knowledge of ArcGIS software and products in water resource and environmental applications is preferred.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills as well as the management and development of ArcSDE server applications are strongly preferred.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Must be able to travel in-state and out of state, including overnight travel.  Must be able to demonstrate progressive work experience in GIS applications, including GIS map creation and geodatabase design and management.

    About This Job: This opening in our Engineering & Operations area will support NISC’s Mapwise software products focused on NISC’s mapping solutions. Our mapping products empower field technicians to easily update maps, staking sheets, and conduct equipment and location maintenance from a single interface. Our support specialists work closely with our members and software engineers to troubleshoot, research, and resolve issues within the software product.

    What you will do as a Support Specialist: Assist members in all aspects of application support for NISC’s Mapwise products including troubleshooting, training, and research via phone, email, or chat; Follow up on resolutions and serve as a liaison between our members and our software engineers; Assist with software release processes and may be called upon to test the software or give feedback on the software design; Communicate with development staff to convey customer feedback; Perform either on-site or remote training to our members and prepare training materials. Travel may occasionally be required; Provide after-hours support via an on-call support phone rotation; Utilize your ArcGIS server/software skills

    Desired Experience: Candidates with knowledge of ArcGIS and mapping experience are strongly preferred for this position. Our Support Specialists have previous customer support experience. Providing customer service via phone is helpful. NISC’s Support teams display excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to develop relationships and support our members, the ability to teach others, and the ability to work in a team and also independently.     Primary Responsibilities: The Professional Service Specialist (Software Implementations) reports to a Professional Services Team Lead. Works closely with the GIS conversion team and other Engineering & Operations' team members in resolving technical project and software transition issues. The position is responsible for performing NISC GIS software implementations for Member/Customers, managing the implementation project, providing application support to customers, validating and verifying the accuracy of the converted data, training personnel on all aspects of the application, answering questions on function and usage of product via the telephone, e-mail, or on-site.

    Essential Functions: Provides superior customer support to internal and external customers in all encounters; Conduct conversion analysis of GIS and engineering model data; Determine expectations and timelines of the Member’s conversion process; Prepare and monitor the Project Plan; Identify gaps in features and functionality in software and oversee resolution; Identify changes required for conversion of data; Complete and prepare conversion documents; Reconcile converted totals and month-end balancing; Oversee the standardization of artifacts used in the Project Plan; Add and enhance artifacts with team lead’s assistance; Assist in document preparation; Communicate with all parties involved in the enterprise implementation; Compiles and analyzes business requirements and evaluates Member/Customers’ operational processes to prepare for software application conversions, migrations, and/or new implementations; Designs and implements system set-up configurations for Member/Customers performing independently and proficiently; Designs and delivers training to the Member employees to prepare for “live” week;
    Utilizes all implementation best practices and artifacts for all implementation projects; Assists customers in all aspects of implementation including troubleshooting, training, and on-going support; Prepares Change Requests (CRs) and follow-up to resolution; Performs research of difficult application problems, resolves issues for Member/Customers and recommends changes or enhancements as directed; Facilitate and follow up with Member/Customers on difficult requests and procedures; Gather, maintains and audits Member information in the configuration database; Utilizes all support tools as directed; Conveys customer feedback to product development staff as appropriate; Perform on-site training or deliver remote application training to Member/Customers via Web Tools; Provides after hours support;

    Primary Responsibilities: This opening is on our GIS production team. The team collaborates with the GIS support team, and works with Members across the country who are using our mapping products and other GIS systems. The team produces maps for our Members while ensuring quality control on mapping projects and that the specifications of the customer's requests have been met. Having the right tools is key to an efficient work flow. We empower our Members with maps at everyone’s fingertips. NISC’s GIS allows our Members to capture, manage, analyze, and display their data across the organization.

    Essential Functions: Edit and maintain GIS datasets for internal and external customers including, but not limited to; layers, fields, domains, geometric networks, and associated attributes and assets. Produce high-quality GIS maps (digital and hard copy) that successfully communicate geographic information by creating and setting up map document (.mxd) files for use in GIS including, but not limited to; symbology, table joins and labeling. Adhere to set schedule, tracking and monitoring GIS projects to ensure start time and deadlines are met, keeping all stakeholders informed. Initiate regular quality control checks of GIS Data to ensure data integrity and accuracy rectifying and documenting issues. Ability to travel as often as necessary to meet the goals and objectives of the position. Other duties as assigned.

    Desired Job Experience: Basic knowledge of business related software applications and services. Working knowledge of: ArcGIS Desktop, ArcCatalog
