This position will be responsible for maintaining a Geographic Information System (GIS) and performing engineering support within the Department including designing, drafting, or digitizing plats and maps; data entry of pertinent structural detail; calculating complex mathematical and logarithmic equations for engineering projects and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned area. The GIS Analyst will use database management and application development skills to implement automated field data collection within the department. Key responsibilities of this position include responding to requests for information, maps, records and other materials from city staff, contractors, outside agencies and the general public. Additionally, the incumbent will perform office-surveying duties, prepare and distribute engineering related correspondence and reports, and operate various engineering, computer and peripheral equipment.

This position is located in the Response Division. In the position you will serve as a GIS Technician, coordinating Geographic Information Systems (GIS) support for FEMA Region 7 Response Division. This position starts at a salary of $72,500 (IC-12).
In this position, you will develop, code, maintain, and integrate databases with GIS systems; produce and present data in the form of tables, graphs, and geospatial maps; and update, maintain, and expand relational and geo-databases.
◦Creating accurate geospatial maps in a timely manner using the proper techniques and procedures.
◦Producing maps that display information in an understandable and aesthetically pleasing manner.
◦Locating, analyzing, and presenting spatial data in the form of tables, graphs, and charts.
◦Importing data into databases and creating custom queries.
◦Performing attribute and spatial joins.
◦Following established FEMA standards for map layout.
◦Geo-referencing data and using vector and raster data within GIS software.
◦Importing, converting, and generating GPS data into GPS software.
