GSI is seeking candidates for a full-time GIS Analyst position in our Wichita, Kansas office. The successful candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills, and strong technical and interpersonal skills. Must be self-motivated, innovative, and able to work successfully with staff and clients at all levels.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design digital maps with environmental and geographic data.
  • Create shape files to merge topographical data with external data by layering external data (various databases) over a topological or base map.
  • Produce maps showing the spatial distribution of various kinds of data, including elevation data and various types of environmental data.
  • Convert physical maps into a digital form for computer use by internal clients.
  • Use various types of related software including ArcGIS, Surfer, Rockworks, CAD, etc.
  • Manage a digital library of maps and databases of various file types for internal and external clients.
  • Use Rockworks software to prepare geologic maps and cross sections.
  • Perform statistical analysis of various types of data.
  • Other special project duties may include: analyze drone survey data, general maintenance of servers, analyze a variety of data (wetlands, plant surveys, geologic information, etc) using various software programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical certification or B.S. in GIS, Cartography, Drafting, Geography or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience working in the GIS field. Using Auto CAD, ArcGIS, LiDAR, Esri related or other related products.
  • Experience with tools and techniques for data normalization, mapping, and transformation.
  • Proficient with CAD and ArcGIS applications.
  • Experience in the application and usage of general or domain metadata for organizing and managing information.
  • Understanding of information management.
  • Good organizational skills and an aptitude for complex analytical and detailed work; ability to prioritize among multiple concurrent projects to meet deadlines in a timely manner.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present and share ideas effectively and work with a variety of professions (geologists, scientists, engineers).
  • Ability to multi-task and understand various scientific applications.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to pass pre-employment drug screen.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Functional knowledge of data management in a data warehouse environment.
  • Strong analytical skills in analyzing data movement between systems and transformation logic.
  • Strong aptitude for understanding system capabilities.
  • Familiarity with the process of developing and implementing new tools or services.
