Here's a quick legislative update for Kansas Mappers, some bills in the house:
On the topic of the Economy:
HB 2006 - Requiring the department of commerce to create a database of economic development incentive program information.
…there could be some interesting statistics that could come from this.
There is a lot currently going on in the area of Energy:
HB 2081 - Reestablishing the Kansas electric transmission authority.
Electric Utility companies are currently regulated by the State through the Kansas Corporation Commission, http://www.kcc.state.ks.us/ .
HB 2317 - Requiring certain electric transmission lines to acquire a siting permit from the state corporation commission
…similar to another bill in the Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications:
HB 2109 - Requiring electric public utilities to acquire a permit from the state corporation commission prior to the siting of certain electric transmission lines.

Introduced by Scott Eckberg, this one has very specific GIS language, check it out!
Agriculture and Natural Resources:
HB 2085 - Concerning requirements for the reinstatement of a forfeited benefit unit of a rural water district.
This is in the Committee of Agriculture, if you are involved in mapping water resources, then this one might be of interest to you.

Finally, I encourage you to skim over these, on the topic of
HB 2373 - Creating the transportation planning program
HB 2369 - Authorizing the secretary of transportation to designate toll projects on new and existing highways and changing financing requirements for toll or turnpike projects.
and finally, while not necessarily mapper related, be aware of
HB 2385 - Designating the polka as the official state dance.
we might need a map to find the planned polka dancing opportunities around the state.
Thanks for these updates, Kyle!
As for the polka, I suppose there are worse choices for official state dances. Flossing comes to mind.
