Cadastral Mapping-Methods and Applications is intended to be a continuation of the mapping science curriculum. It exposes students to aspects of protocol and legal principles that are not covered in Course 600. This course utilizes lectures, classroom discussion and exercises to emphasize the main concepts and procedures taught during the week.

Intermediate Arcade

  • Instructor: Micah Seybold (City of Lawrence) and Amy Roust (Kansas Department of Health and Environment)
  • Cost: $75 KAM Members / $125 Non-KAM Members
This half-day workshop is designed to build upon the skills presented in Introduction to Arcade. Students should have a working knowledge of Arcade, including global variables, functions, and declaring variables. Exercises include: blending Arcade into HTML and CSS to make pop-ups change dynamically; using geometry-based functions to compare feature layers; and tightening code by nesting functions.

Graphic Design for Mapping Professionals

Morning session:
Inkscape and Gimp, Vector and Raster Open Source Graphic Editing Software

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to two of the most popular open source (free) graphic design softwares for vector and raster files, Inkscape and GIMP. With the novice in mind, this course will highlight how Inkscape and GIMP can be used to increase mapping efficiency and expand cartographic and design possibilities. The first part of the course will be an overview of features, followed by potential applications/examples, and conclude with several hands-on projects/examples. Both Inkscape and GIMP can be simple programs to learn and used in conjunction with or in lieu of, ArcGIS for mapping projects.
